Site
A public change log (this page), visit reports on every listing, and real photos instead of drawings at the top of city pages and guides.
Photos
Photos for 6 more places: Saiwai, Nanatsuishi and Wakakusa onsen from Beppu City's community onsen map, Yamada Besso from Beppu City's tourism site, Yama no Chaya from the Hakone Town Tourism Association, and Solaniwa Onsen from the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau. →
Photos
Photos for 66 more places: 60 Beppu onsen from Beppu City's tourism site and the Beppu Hatto Onsendo, and 6 Hakone baths and hotels from the Hakone Town Tourism Association. Each page credits and links the source. →
Site
Listing cards now show a small photo of the place, or a drawing of its type when we have no photo yet. →
Site
Native speakers checked the Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese pages, and search engines can now find them.
Correction
Six Beppu places were listed twice, once for the shared bath and once for the private bath, because the city map shows them in both layers. Each is now one page; the old links redirect. →
Correction
Removed 9 Anytime Fitness pages that weren't real branches. They came from test and index pages on the chain's website.
Correction
Four JOYFIT branches were filed under Tokyo but are in Saitama (Soka, Kawaguchi and Tokorozawa). Moved them, and fixed the address of Anytime Fitness Omori Ekimae, which showed a neighbouring branch's.
Correction
Moved 148 map pins that were more than 30 m from the building to its street address.
Photos
Photos for 68 places, used with permission: the Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka sento associations, Visit Kinosaki and Beppu City. →
Site
Sumiyu opened to everyone, with every place searchable on a list or a map. →
Re-checked
Re-read the source page of every listing (623). 622 still say the same thing. Hotel Shikinoyakata Hakone Ashinoko's page no longer states its tattoo rule, so we're asking the hotel. →
Added
Added Beppu from the city's own tattoo-friendly onsen map, Kinosaki's 7 public baths, more Hakone hotels, 34 Tokyo sento, the pool rules of Tokyo's wards, and the Anytime, JOYFIT and Gold's Gym branches.
July 2026
Rule change
Seibu Prince Hotels stopped turning guests away only because of tattoos at its baths and pools, phased in from 1 July 2026. Some facilities may be excluded, so we list each hotel separately. →
