Official rules: male foreign tourists may bathe wearing one designated patch (¥330; the tattoo may show around it) and must show a passport or air ticket, arrival within 90 days. Women (any nationality): fashion tattoos OK; one patch if a single tattoo exceeds 30 × 30 cm. Japanese men and men living in Japan: not allowed.
